“Good morning.” 她开口,英音标准,吐字清晰,没有试探性的迟疑,“I’m here not to represent an exception, but to speak for what should no longer be exceptional.”

“Ten years ago, China produced over three hundred feature films annually. Last year, that number exceeded nine hundred. Our market is vast. Our audience is growing faster than our infrastructure can support it. And in this rush, we’ve created a system where survival often depends on performance — not on stage, but off it.”

“An actor must perform loyalty, gratitude, humility, even joy — regardless of how they feel. They learn to smile when contracts are unfair. To laugh when asked for favors beyond their role. To stay silent when boundaries are crossed. This isn’t professionalism. It’s emotional labor without protection.”

“Let me tell you about someone,”她说,语气转缓,“A young performer, twenty-three years old. She worked seven projects in two years. No breaks. No psychological evaluation. Her agency told her: ‘Rest is visible. Fatigue damages your image.’ So she learned to hide panic attacks behind sunglasses. To cancel therapy appointments because ‘looking weak online’ cost more than feeling broken offline. One night, she stood on a balcony at three a.m., not because she wanted to die — but because she couldn’t remember why she wanted to live.”

“She stepped back. Not because of a miracle. But because one day, a colleague asked her: ‘Are you okay?’ Not as a line. Not for content. But as a real question. That small moment changed her path. She sought help. She left the contract. She now teaches acting — with mandatory mental health check-ins before every rehearsal.”

“I don’t know if she’ll ever act again. But I know this: if we continue to treat actors as disposable assets, we won’t just lose talent. We will lose truth. Because no authentic performance can come from a mind under siege.”

“China is often seen through extremes: either as a land of unchecked commercialism, or as a closed system resistant to change. But neither is accurate. What exists is tension — between tradition and speed, between art and algorithm, between individual worth and collective expectation.”

“We are learning. Slowly. Painfully. Some studios now include wellness clauses in contracts. A few platforms have begun flagging manipulated trends. Young creators are demanding creative ownership. These are small steps. But they are ours.”

“Yet progress cannot happen only within borders,”她继续说,“We need global awareness. Not intervention. Not judgment. But solidarity. When a Korean actress speaks up about burnout, we listen. When a Nigerian filmmaker demands fair pay, we amplify. When a Brazilian dancer fights for injury compensation, we recognize the pattern — because it’s the same fight, just different languages.”

“So I ask you today: stop measuring actors by visibility alone. Look at longevity. Look at sustainability. Ask whether your projects build people — or break them. Build support systems into development budgets. Require psychological evaluations for long-term shoots. Normalize saying ‘no’ without penalty.”

“And most importantly — stop calling it ‘resilience’ when someone endures abuse. Call it what it is: exploitation disguised as passion.”

“Actors are not products. They are people. And people deserve to be understood — not consumed.”

She didn’t beg for attention. She demanded recognition.”

And won it.”
